Grant Application Calendar

The Kenan Trust offers three grant cycles each fiscal year (July 1–June 30). Each cycle has a two-stage application process and lasts roughly 5–6 months from the initial Letter of Inquiry Deadline to a Grant Decision.

Application Process

  • Letter of Inquiry Due: Invited organizations submit a Letter of Inquiry to the Trust in the first stage of the application process to introduce the proposed grant project. All materials are due to the Trust by 5:00 pm on the date cited by the Trust to be eligible for review in that grant cycle.
  • Full Proposal Invitation Issued: After internal review, projects that best align with our Trustees’ priorities will be invited to the second stage of the application process, which includes submitting a Full Proposal.
  • Full Proposal Due: Full Proposals are reviewed internally and presented to the Trustees for consideration and a vote three times each calendar year. Full Proposals must be submitted to the Trust by 5:00 pm on the date cited by the Trust to be eligible for review and Trustee consideration in that grant cycle.
  • Grant Decision: Trustees review Full Proposals in September, December, and March each year.
