Grant Application Calendar

The Kenan Trust offers three grant cycles each fiscal year (July 1 – June 30). Each cycle has a two-stage process, beginning with the Letter of Inquiry. Certain projects will be invited to the second stage which includes a Full Proposal followed by a Grant Decision. Please review the dates outlined below carefully as one grant cycle takes between 6 and 7 months to complete.

Application Process

  • Letters of Inquiry: The Kenan Trust will issue invitations to submit a Letter of Inquiry for Grant Cycle 1 and 3. For Grant Cycle 2, eligible organizations may submit a Letter of Inquiry to the Trust without an invitation by accessing our online grants management portal in May and June. 
  • Letter of Inquiry Due: Letters of Inquiry are due to the Trust by 5pm on the dated cited by the Trust to be eligible for review. 
  • Full Proposal Invitation Issued: After review, projects that best align with our Trustees’ priorities will be invited to the second stage of the application process, which includes submitting a Full Proposal.
  • Full Proposal Due: Full proposals are due to the Trust by 5pm on the date cited by the Trust to be eligible for review
  • Grant Decision: Trustees consider full proposals in September, December, and March to coincide with the end of each grant cycle.
