The Kenan Trust is excited to announce that we are accepting Letters of Inquiry (LOIs) from organizations interested in partnering with us for a grant. The deadline for submission is July 1, 2025. Please see below for more specifics.
- We are accepting LOIs for projects in a limited number of focus areas. In our Education program, we are accepting projects in Access + Retention and Educational Quality. In Human Thriving, we are accepting projects addressing Food Insecurity. Please see our program pages for more information about the types of projects we are interested in funding in each of these areas and important details about specific information that must be included in your LOI.
- Eligible 501(c)(3) organizations must be seeking funding for projects in one or more of the four states where the Trust does grantmaking – Florida, New York, North Carolina, and Virginia. Projects may not include lobbying or political activity.
- Organizations should submit only one LOI to the Trust for consideration.
- Generally, our grants range in size from $100,000 to more than $1M. Please share the cost of the entire project when you submit your LOI as well as the amount of funding you are seeking from the Trust for the project. If your LOI advances to the next stage of the grant application process, a Grant Officer may be in touch to review the request amount.
- The Grant team will not review LOI concepts or host exploratory phone calls prior to submission for this grant cycle.
- For a timeline of this grant cycle, please visit our Grant Application Calendar and refer to Grant Cycle 2.
- We expect that the open submission pool will be highly competitive, and we do not anticipate funding all projects that are submitted.
- When completing the LOI form, your data must be entered and submitted in one user session. If you would like to work on your application over a period of days, please pdf and print the LOI application form, work on it outside of our grantee portal, and copy and paste your answers into the form when you are ready to submit.
- Please be mindful of character limits and note that embedded links in your application will make your entry exceed character limits.
- Answers to Frequently Asked Questions about our Grant Application Process can be found here.
- To submit a LOI, please click HERE. Please note that all LOIs must be submitted by 5:00 PM (ET) on July 1, 2025. LOIs received after this deadline will not be reviewed.
If you have a project you would like the Trust to consider for future funding that is not being accepted in the Open Submission period, please check back for updates on our funding focus areas for future years.
